For all of the guys in the clan that have played Crysis or have heard of Crysis (should be about 99% of you), you will know that crysis is pretty much the creme de la creme of modern day gaming visuals; it didnt do too badly in the gameplay deparetment either. Now the nerds over at Crytek have stepped up their game and are coming out with Crysis 2 on the new and improved CryEngine 3, something that im hoping will tap into the full capabilities of the PS3 and make it explode (in a good kinda way). Expect this bad boy to be released some time late 2010.
a bit of info on the game itself from the most reliable source on the web

Crytek amended this, saying that the player will be Nomad. However, they also mentioned a possibility on how Nomad is being mistaken as Prophet throughout the story. The protagonist is not meant to be wearing the nanosuit 2, and so Crynet Systems will be hunting the player down. There will be more freedom of choice, larger gameplay options and more tactical warfare. The soldiers will now be equipped with new equipment including the Nanosuit 2. The Nanosuit 2 gives players more freedom in their options of how to tackle situations on the battlefield. For the first time in the Crysis series this game will be available on consoles. Crytek have stated their intention to surpass the original game graphically and have noted that fighting in the game will be "catastrophically beautiful". Crytek have also claimed that the game will have lower system requirements than the original game.
The new game is set in New York City and once again players will have freedom of when it comes to what weapons and customizations you use. Crytek decided that they wanted to avoid making another game set in the jungle so the urban setting is a great change. The urban environment offers players more options when it comes to how to progress and planning attacks. Players of Crysis 2 will be able to do new things such as jump between floors and buildings. The new nanosuit has new features however the transition is 'softened': there will be a period of time where players are able to use both suit modes simultaneously, before the suit fully changes. In the game environment, there will be plenty of structures that players can destroy, jump on, and take advantage of.
2 newly released screens that are sure to make you jizz. regardless of how impotent you may be (should be about 99% of you).

TBH I'm quite concerned about how good the PS3 version will look: Crytek are hardcore PC developers. Their programming experience on the PC will easily translate to the 360, but not to the PS3 which has a very unique architecture. Even Crytek acknowledge that, because they went out and bought a PS3 developer to help them program the PS3 version.
Only problem is that the developer they bought (Free Radical), while having a brilliant PS2 pedigree, only had one PS3 game to their name, and it was... Haze. Those are the guys who are doing the PS3 version of Crysis 2

My mate has read plenty into this. They are absolutely pushing the console systems to the extreme to make this game look pretty. With any luck you could expect the console equivelant of 'High' which should look really good.
But as mentioned, consoles will never be as capabale as PC's and always outperformed.

@Chiips: exactly!
I've seen the engine demos for the PS3 and 360, and while the 360 looks good the PS3 looks like it's waaaay behind. Maybe Free Radical can turn it around but I'd really advise people not to get their hopes up just yet.

Console looks surprisingly decent. I think I'll still buy on PC though.

Yar. My PC could probably handle high w/ Crysis 2 - with any luck (managed Very High with the Original Crysis, only some frame rate drops when the action picked up)

Now here's an interesting tidbit:
Quote:
Crytek has admitted that its getting "slightly more performance" out of the PS3 version of Crysis 2 than the Xbox 360 edition.
However, the studio's business development boss Carl Jones said he was confident the game would become the best-looking title "on every platform".
The studio has previously revealed that it overcame problems squeezing the game's massive CryEngine 3 onto console.
However, it went on to claim that the game's graphics were the best you'd ever see on console - something CVG's own experience of the Xbox 360 version backed up.
Our man Ryan saw just a snippet of gameplay running on PS3, and said it looked exactly the same as the 360 version. But now it appears that over the course of the title, Sony's system might have the edge.
Jones added that Crytek had no difficulty developing for the PS3 in comparison to the 360.

Well shit when you've got 50GB of blu ray to fit it on compared to a 7GB DVD disc, of course your going to be better off.

Blu-ray is a definite advantage (particularly for open world games) but storage medium is only one small part of a very large equation. The PS3 has quite a unique architecture and 3rd party devs are only just starting to really get their heads around it.
