Hi all,

A friend is moving back to the Uk and he's flogging off a Sony LCD and a Surround sound, which I'm interested in for my gaming setup. That way I don't have to stop playing because the missus want to watch the biggest loser or some other shit like RSPCA animal rescue.

Currently I'm running a Sony 40" X series (KDL-40x3100), full HD, 2 years old.

The one he's selling is a Sony 26" V series (KLV-V26a10) - it's not got a built in HD tuner and runs 1366x768 resolution and has a HDMI input. It's about 2.5-3years old and hasn't been used much at all. approx $1200 when new.

Surround sound is a Sony DAV-SB200 DVD system. It's not got optical or HDMI (similar age to TV above), but does have RCA input for audio.

I think he's probably looking for a couple of hundred bucks for each. What do you think?

Hey Spender

I personally wouldn't want to be playing on a 26" TV. I've got a 26" Samsung which I use as computer monitor.

As for the surround system... it's doesn't have HDMI Could come in handy though if don't already have a DVD/CD player... for $200?? how much was it new??
I've got a Sony System which I think has better specs than that and comes with Amplifier with few HDMIs... and got it for bit over $500. So dunno if $200 for that is such a good buy.

If it's something you're looking to be playing a lot of PS3 on, I would suggest you get something better. But as a spare only.... ? maybe

thanks chiips.

just seen that jbhifi have a samsung surround dvd system that's just over $200, so will rethink the offer on the surround. guess irt was in the $500-600 region new, so maybe $100-150 now.

tv - like I said - second tv set or gaming only. I sit real close to the 40" anyway.

Any opinion on 720p vs 1080p - any difference to how much/little you can see (thinking enemies at great distance)?

cheers

You mentioned his telly doesn't have a built-in HD tuner, so you're gonna need to get a set top box then?? or just go analogue?

Our resident TV expect is out leader Snickersbar, so maybe he'll pop in soon.

As for 1080 versus 720 : most games are in 720 anyway, but things might change. I still reckon it comes down to the size of telly. A 1080 26" dude in the distance will still look small. As for sitting close to telly, not a problem. The closer you are, the better you can appreciate 1080. There's some graph which suggests how far you should be for TV sizes.... and it's all fairly close if I recall, even for big TVs.

Up to you I guess. If it's only an hour here and there.... doesn't matter too much.

If I decide to buy it I'd just go analogue until they turn off the signal.

What i mean by great distance is that I'm still sat close to the screen, but it's drawing an enemy in the background. I've seen killcams and can't even understand how they saw me. Perhaps it's time I visited specsavers again!

There's your problem, you goto Specsavers!! Don't fall for their marketing!

Although some people do pull off some BS kills in COD.
