PS4 | Path of Exile
PoE is a PC title of about 5 years finally making its way to PS4 this year (December?). The game is a Dungeon crawler RPG with tonnes of depth borrowing heavily from the Diablo franchise.Path of Exile is an online Action RPG set in the dark fantasy world of Wraeclast. It is designed around a strong online item economy, deep character customisation, competitive PvP and ladder races. The game is completely free and will never be "pay to win".
Anyone spent any time with this on PC or Xbox? Ive played a few hours on PC but using touchpad on a laptop isnt a great gaming experience and Ive nevet bothered to buy a mouse. Very happy to see this come to Playstation and after the recent Diablo debarcle at Blizzcon (you guys own phones right?!) it should get a healthly playerbase.

It is online co-op (not sure about local co-op?). The small amount I've played, there are hub areas where you see/meet other players, I'd imagine you form some sort of squad of 4 and go looting. I'll try to find some decent gameplay clips to post but its basically a Diablo style game (Have you played Diablo III of PS4?).
Yeah we played a bit and did the dungeon things.
I played mostly solo on PC though.

How does PoE compare to Diablo 3? As good, or not quite? Obviously it’s cheaper, although I think I got Diablo 3 on PS4 for like $13 or something.

It probably depends who you ask... Some people prefer the PoE art style and mechanics, others are hardcore Diablo fans and wont touch anything else! From the limited time Ive spent playing it, it was quite a slow start but fairly accesible and fun. Ive poured many more hours into Diablo but with no sign of D4 or any decent Diablo content Im looking forward to giving this a good go. Its also free which helps.
Diablo is very easy to pick up and get right. Gorgeous graphics, flashy effects.
PoE is far far more complex. Gritty and very similar to D2 in feel.
PoE to D3 is a bit like Warframe compared to Destiny2. If it's free I will definitely be giving it another go. I have tried 3 seasons on PoE on PC but quit soon after starting due to the skill tree.

Cool, these games are always better in a group... Hopefully theres a way we can share loots? Not sure how loot work in this game, I'd imagine its Diablo-esque where you pick up your own stuff.
On PC there is a whole trading system, based on resources. It's actually really clever. Hopefully they bring it over.

I downloaded this (at 1am) last night - 10GB. Free to play - give it a go
I will download it once my internet is fixed. I think NBN rollout has killed my net. Getting 2 to 3 Mb a sec download and only 70Kb upload at the moment.

played a tiny bit of this on PC a couple of months ago just to get a feel for it, couldn't really get into it with keyboard and mouse, just not my jam. Plays allright on the ps4 now though. Wish I could turn off all the "player x is the first person to reach Y" notifications though.

Yeah, I prefer PS4 version - seems to be the case with all games. It's gonna take a bit of time to get used to the inventory management but it seems well enough adapted for console.
I only played for an hour or so last night, chose to start as a witch, no idea if I chose a league or not? I seem to remember that was an option on PC but I don't think I saw it last night and didn't really think about it til today. If there is something like that (like Diablo seasons) I'll just start a new character.

lol, Have you even played Diablo? The Longevity comes from pushing difficulty by gearing so you get to the point where you press any button and nothing dies...
And yeah, that skill tree! I've only put a handful of points into it and already feel like I've chose the wrong path.
Just reached Act 2. Had a bit of a mess around with the memory fragments in the memory map, there's some loot in there!
Yeah I have but it doesn't feel challenging atm but I guess it's only act 1... I'll keep playing though.
Be good to party up and see the difficulty increase.
I don't think is a right or wrong path but definitely have to read ahead, plus there are reskill tokens you can use. I chose a path of INT instead of finding some DEX as well so I did go back lol

Figured out exactly why my ranger is so squishy last night. Evade doesn't help when it comes to spells, only physical damage. So, when you have less than 100 armor but nearly 900 evade and only 20 energy shield, unless you've got pretty high elemental resistances you're going to get messed up pretty quick if you get swarmed by magic dealing foes. That being said, last night I got rewarded with a pretty sweet bow skill which is great for hitting lots of mobs at once, and once I get a bit of gear that I can link some supports to it it's going to be awesome. Also finished the first set of trials of ascendancy and got my ascendant subclass.
Will be getting into this some more this afternoon, it's so deep I'm not sure I'll ever even understand half of what goes on.
