Hereís a Battle Royal match from last night. At 5 minutes theyíre a perfect length IMHO:

Also donít let the Typhoon loading screen confuse you, those are just randomly featured jets. Iím in a Gripen E here.

Speaking of the YF-23, I wonder if it wouldíve been cheaper for the Australian government to go in with Japan and get Northrop to build us the (super capable) YF-23 than order the F-35. That wouldíve made Indonesia shit their pants. The F-35 was supposed to be an el cheapo stealth jet, but the development hell itís been in means that youíre paying for beer tastes with a champagne budget.

Yeah for sure will hit you two up for a MP session. Just been busy with running, and in this humidity it has been killing my life. I go home, eat a massive dinner and then collapse on the lounge lol.

As for the YF23 and F35. Unfortunately the Aussie government is too aligned with American defence contractors and they fell for that debacle hook line and sinker. Also, even though it was developed by Northrup, not sure if it would have compatible with existing American weapon systems once Japan got on board. Could be wrong though.

Weíll get something going when we can then. Had some good matches with gilly tonight, I finished dead last in one with zero points (basically I was just flying around taking in the sights, despite my best efforts lol), and still enjoyed it

On the YF-23, good point on American weapon system integration and Japanese involvement. Also it seems like there was still a lot of complicated development left for the YF-23 (particularly the weapons bay), so it wasnít as far along as I thought it was. It probably wouldíve ended up being double the unit price of the F-35. The juryís still out on how good the F-35 actually is though, whereas the YF-23 prototypes were already very impressive.

Yeh, some good games last night despite getting thrashed with nothing unlocked.

Ended up doing taking a long time to do SP mission 6 last night not realising that getting the points is the easy part, surviving the time is the hard part with the A-10, I kept trying to wipe out every ground target hoping that wingmen would at least try to keep some of the aircraft off my tail, no luck.

    My loadout for MP:

    Gripen E
    SASM
    Special weapon payload increase
    Special weapon damage increase
    Special weapon homing increase

With the payload increase youíll have enough SASMs to basically use only them for the entire match.

The F-16 can run SASM too, as can the F-15C. I assume that some of the Russian planes can too, but I havenít unlocked any. Some people swear by the QAAM loadout too (the quick reaction missiles that fly like pretzels), but I havenít tried it.

For mission 6, donít forget that you have flares too (L3 + R3) for emergency situations when you canít dodge. And finally, you can fly back to the friendly runway to rearm and repair if you need to. I didnít do that because I imagine it would be quite tight (time-wise) in the slower A-10, but if youíve managed to hit the score quota already then get your arse back there and repair I guess. If youíre still struggling then maybe some new plane parts might help too (earn the MRP for them in MP).

If you get really, really desperate, the F-15E with cluster bombs (SPSD? or something like that) would probably make it a cakewalk, but thatís a much later unlock that would require more MRP.

And yeah, your wingmen are basically useless. Although Count sometimes comes through in a pinch, surprisingly. He salvaged one escort mission for me when I thought it was all over.

I went and reloaded once, getting to the line chews up a small amount of time, but once there the timer stops untill you finish repair/rearm (you get a new timer for landing and takeoff though). I also believe you lose points toward an S rank I believe cause you get chewed out in the mission debriefing. Once I finish the campaign I'm going to spam mp to unlock everything before attempting to go through and S rank everything.

I think that line chewing people out for using the landing strip in the debrief gets delivered regardless of whether you actually use it or not - I heard it, despite not using it. Iím told that the in-mission radio chatter actually clears you personally to use it if you want to, but I was too busy to notice that.

Have you seen the named Aces stuff? After youíve finished the campaign, if you go back and replay specific missions while completing specific hidden objectives, a certain named Ace(s) will spawn in during that mission. If you shoot them down I believe you unlock a special skin for the aircraft theyíre flying.

Is mission 6 the one with 3 areas you have to ďclearĒ? That one is pissing me off.

Yes (although a few missions have 3 areas you need to hit). Itís the first one with a points quota that you have to hit within a time limit. Itís the first difficulty spike within the game.

If youíre struggling then getting some extra MRP from playing Multiplayer and then doing aircraft upgrades can be a big help. I posted some tips that helped me earlier.

EDIT: Sorry, scratch that last part, I actually gave gilly some tips over the mic. My advice was to unlock the A-10C and use the 4AGM special weapon for that mission. You can lock onto four ground targets at once with that, plus the A-10C is a flying brick shithouse with an awesome gun as a backup weapon. Only downside with the A-10C is that itís slow, and shit at air-to-air combat.

Yeh, I've seen the named Aces stuff, you don't need to finish campaign, just the specific mission, they only show up on normal or higher difficulty on replay. I believe the data viewer in the main menu has the circumstances to spawn them.

Also, man, the last mission can be a real pain in the ass if you don't pick an awesome Loadout. Just tried using the railgun, but even that is taking 3 hits to down the targets.

You get a shitload of money for the last few missions, ended up buying the SU-57 and figuring out the post-stall-manouvres for a bit of fun. Looks and feels awesome to do, but I kind of wished they were achievable at higher speeds, although it would make them a bit OP in multiplayer.

Had my first win in "battle royal" mode using the rail gun on the F-18, beats doing loops and spamming missiles that's for sure.

Youíre right, the named aces show up in the Ďassault targetsí section, or something like that, in the data viewer. Silly buggers.

For the last mission i didnít have trouble with the combat, but I wish Iíd taken the yaw upgrade part, wouldíve made life a lot easier

Interesting, I havenít unlocked a single Russian jet yet. I have all of the US and European ones now, but no Russian or Japanese jets. Iím currently saving up for the unlock jet, which is certainly on the pricey side.

As far as unlocks go, I'm all over the shop, been focusing more on the mods and sp weapons than the planes. I've got a couple of each (Russian/euro/US) left, and can't decide whether I want to save up for the last plane or get the F-22 or the YF-23, or god forbid the F-35. So far I can't really see a good reason to go for the remaining euro jets apart from the cruise missiles which strike me as very situational.

The cruise missiles are pretty awesome. But I went for the European jets mostly so that I could get the Gripen E for MP.

The F-35 gets access to 8AGM, which does what it says on the tin: locks on to 8 concurrent targets with AGMs.

I have a hankering for some aerial ballet for some reason.

I am shocked that there aren't really any WW1 or 2 games on PS4 (outside of battlefield). Remember IL 2 Sturmovik Birds of Prey on PS3?

And no space shooters? Just re-master Colony Wars damn it.

Yeah I gotta say that AC7 (and AC5) really hit the spot.

Thereís War Thunder on PS4 (itís free to play), and thatís basically the successor to IL-2 Sturmovik (same dev). For space shooters thereís the Fighter Squadron modes in the Star Wars Battlefront games:

I was really hoping that EA would use the Star Wars licence to make a new X-Wing game. Unfortunately theyíre using the Star Wars licence to make sweet fuck all.

You get so much MRP for the last couple of missions, finished my hard playthrough and bought the remaining US jets. The YF-23 was a tad underwhelming, couldn't get it to do any post-stall-manouvres.

Started a guns-only run for the medal, god damn it can be frustrating at times. That being said, it's proof that wingmen do shoot shit, Wiseman managed to drop an entire platform on me in mission 11 with 1 minute to go.

I love the YF-23 just for the design. I donít use post-stall manoeuvres (too damn slow), but when I want to much around with that stuff Iím usually in the Raptor anyway. The YF-23 is insanely fast though: one of the fastest in the game, and easily the fastest with actual flying chops. Very handy for some of the Ace spawning conditions.

For the guns only run are you using the Mig-21 with machine gun pods?

Thought about it, but other planes are just better, either in dogfights or just outright quicker. So far I've used the F-22 with the auto shoot and gun lock parts and have been doing ok, but used the A-10 for mission 11 hoping that it would be a bit better for the platforms and ships, which still took a lot of shooting.

I havenít tried it myself, but a lot of people whoíve got that medal say that the Mig-21 with machine gun pods is the way to go.

Will probably try that out for the missions with the arsenal birds, although I'm not too sure how well it would go against the more advanced aerial threats in the last few missions. Taking out Sol 1 with standard missiles was fun enough, glad my gun only run will be on easy.
