If i could take 5 collections & be stranded on an island - everything by Maurice Ravel, Mozart, Katie Noonan, Devin Townsend & Alice in Chains.

Cannot imagine a better start to a dull morning waiting for a train than this..

    1. Pink Floyd
    2. Black Sabath
    3. Dire Straits
    4. Cream, Derik and the Dominos, or just Clapton (no Kacoul, Eric Clapton was not Australia's PM)
    5. And right now I'm going through a Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers thing, but I'd tie 5 with Fleetwood Mac aswell

Hmmm Top 5 bands of all time. This one is interesting, you can't really say what would be your Top 5 bands ever i don't think, for me personally music reminds me of a stage in my life.

    In no particular order...

1980's. I was born in 1981, when i was a kid i played baseball, every Saturday night we would have a party at our place after, there was a lot of Meatloaf, Guns and Roses but one band i will never forget singing to was Led Zeppelin, my old man is a huge fan of these guys and it would get played every weekend, i have great memories of the old man singing to their songs (old man wasn't the most out going bloke but after a couple wines he would belt out this stuff). Still my favourite Zeppelin song ever.

    Link to playlist

Early 90's. Metallica was pretty much my run on band from the 1980's however i didn't truly love them till the album Metallica (black album). While the whole album is awesome my favourite song is still Sad but True. The intro to this song gets the blood pumping every time. James Hetfields beard styles over the years have greatly influenced my own

    Link to playlist

Late 90's. Next on the list would have to be probably my most favourite band ever. Incubus. There are so many bands that were around at the same time as Incubus but i don't think any have lasted as long and have changed as much over the years. Bands like Korn, Limp Bizkit etc. The late 90's is pretty hard to pick a favourite from i think personally as it's the era that so greatly influenced who i was and who i am today. Bands like Pearl Jam, Nirvana, RHCP, Smashing Pumpkins, Green Day, RATM, Soundgarden, Tool, Stone Temple Pilots, Korn, The Offspring, Sublime, Silver Chair, Faith No More.... the list of awesome bands/albums from this era is just staggering.

    Link to playlist.

The next band is to hard for me to pick from so I'm gonna put 2. They would be Zombie Ghost Train and Volbeat. These 2 bands are from my love of rockabilly, a pretty underrated music style (think the Living End....kinda). Zombie Ghost Train is an Aussie band and Volbeat is a Danish band.

    Link to playlist

    Link to playlist

Last one is hard for me, i don't really listen to anywhere near as much music as i used to, Mostly pretty relaxed chill music, stuff like Birds of Tokyo, Bruno Mars etc. However i really like Jack Johnson, in particular In Between Dreams. Great album, really chilled out. Pick any song from this playlist, they are all good.

    Link to whole album.

Hmmm, tough to limit it to just five. But if I had to, I would say these are my five favourite bands:

    5. Powderfinger
I've been huge fans of these guys since I first heard Turtle's Head on the radio as a teenager (I would have embedded that but can't find it on youtube). I actually met Ian Haug at a wedding and found him to be one of the most down to Earth guys I've met. Champion.

    4. Rage Against The Machine
Like geebz said, when these guys first came on the scene there really wasn't anyone else who sounded anything like them. If you look at the core of the band they kept putting out quality stuff right through the RATM days and then on into Audioslave.

    3. AC/DC
    The greatest Aussie band ever.

    2. Neil Finn/The Finn Brothers/Crowded House
I can think of no musician on the face of the planet that I respect more than Neil Finn.

    1. Something For Kate
Their music might not be for everyone (or nearly anyone lol), but it's always struck a chord with me. The flaws in their music only make me appreciate its beauty more, if that makes sense.

Plenty that came close to making the list too (TOOL, Audioslave, Soundgarden, A Perfect Circle, Peter Gabriel, Coldplay, Baby Animals).

REM (from before they were famous), New Order, Garbage, Linkin Park, Nirvana

Green Day, Cure, and Smashing pumpkins came close.

Totally, it's the same with me and White Stripes. Meg the drummer was taught drums from scratch when they started the band and all their songs have very simple drum beats. As I said in OP no digital editing goes into their songs so sometimes you will hear a bit of a fuck up with the drum beat, but it just makes it so much realer you can appreciate it more.

The White Stripes are one of the most unique bands. In both their songs, and the fact that they allow those flaws to be on the songs and such. They are both very talented musicians. Me and a few friends were talking the other day how it would be near impossible to cover one of their songs exactly. The timing, effects, everything are so weird.

In trying to find my top 5 bands/artists I noticed that I'm more a genre girl than an artist/band fan. So, in order to list the top 5, I've chosen to use the artists that I have listened to the most songs from.

    5. Rob Zombie/ White Zombie
Whenever I'm in a funk, songs like More Human than Human, Dragula and Living Dead Girl seem to always put a smile back on my dial.

    4. Bomfunk MC's
Take note kiddies, this is what pop music should sound like. Not that silly Lady Gaga, Chris Brown or Ke$ha.
    Freestyler
    B-Boys and Fly Girls

    3. The Chemical Brothers
I've spent many a night dancing to this duo in the clubs, at parties and in the car on the way to the clubs and parties.
    Hey Boy Hey Girl
    Block Rockin' Beats

    2. David Guetta
A lot of his music features on my gym playlist as he never fails in wanting me to get up and move.
The top four of his tracks for me are Little Bad Girl, Memories, I wanna go crazy, Gettin' over you

    1. Aphrodite
Undoubtedly the King of Jungle/Drum'n'Bass and I reckon I'll still be dancing to him when I'm well into my 90s.
My all time faves are Flipside, Remix of Fatboy Slims The Rockafella Skank, No Diggity, Once Again and I got five on it.

I ran into the Bomfunk MC's one afternoon after uni in the Queens St mall when I was waiting for a bus.

That's a big call though considering the 90s had the likes of The vengaboys, The Prodigy, Darude (sandstorm!), Fat boy slim, Daft Punk, Basement Jaxx, The Chemical Brothers, DJ Aligator, Moby and of course

    Detroit Grand Pubahs

Personally I rate all of the above better than Bombfunk Mcs, but I really just wanted an excuse to post that video
