    Default The Poetry Thread

Yes, that's right, The Poetry Thread. Seriously...

I had a look around but couldn't find a thread devoted to poetry. We have threads for almost every other creative medium and I figure there's some people here who have a way with words so it could be worth seeing what they come up with. I put it in this section because poetry and music are very closely related so it seemed most fitting. As much as your English teachers would like you to believe otherwise, there are actually no rules in poetry. Rhyme as much as you want, or don't, it's up to you. You don't even have to have written it yourself, but if you do post others' work please credit it accordingly. Anyway I'll get the ball rolling with something I wrote many years ago...

all these dreams have drifted sideways
    now there's no more room
and now we hide so low
    within this airtight tomb
    all these dreams
like they were meant for me
    all these dreams
    with all their pleasant themes

they were defined in my heart
    they will devour my soul
they could take a deep breath
    and swallow the meaning whole

there was a sign on my heart
it said 'for sale' then 'sold'
they just take a deep breath
    and swallow the meaning whole

these dreams are held in place
their fear is all too new
    they only give so much
    before they bloom
    all these dreams
like they were meant for me
    all these dreams
    with all their pleasant themes

they were defined in my heart
    they will devour my soul
they could take a deep breath
    and swallow the meaning whole

there is a sign on my heart
    it hangs over your throne...

There once was a man from altuckit..
who had brown dog and he would.. sit on the porch and read it poetry..

in my younger days and when i was out courting the young females of the time.. I used to sit and right them poems.. hoping that my words of verse would get them all soppy and allow me a better chance to get into their pants.. but alas I never succeeded.. either I wrote shit poems or they just didnt understand true poetry.. i gathered it was the later.. I'll sit back and try and gather my romantic feelings and put verse to paper and try and relive the days of Des "the young" I will probably need a bottle of red or 2.. but hey its a got to be done..

hes nervous, but on the surface he looks calm and ready to drop palms,
but he keeps on forgetting what he wrote down, the whole crowd goes so loud he opens his mouth but the words wont come out

Nice use of rhymes from 8 mile. The last 16 words gave it away

Really? I got it in the first line.....

Something I was inspired to write after getting a message from a friend in Australia while I was wandering home through the rice fields of Japan late one night after work.

    Little buds Sit
    Nestled
    In my ears
    A touch
    And flowers bloom,
    Shifting petals of sound,
    Drowning the rustle
    Of wind in the rice.
    A little petal beeps,
    Tells me someone
    Somewhere
    Has something to say,
    Insists I listen.

    Overhead,
    stars struggle to squeeze
    their radiation
    Through
    to me.
    But yours is always here.

As taught by others with a gentle heart, not to consume oneself with uneasy thought.
It would be deemed that I am the stronger of character to hold such patience as my virtue.
Though unbeknownst to me what use such skill offers?
To hold ability not to outlash towards others? *
My own emotions seem set to strain, this burden, without a thing to gain.*

So I ponder on down the line, until I reach the other side.
I sense these lives without restraint, so I wonder what from them it takes?
For as we've seen, as in me, *my path's been paved with acceptance and "peace".

It seems that they recieve no penalty. No thrashings, bashings or slaps be seen. *
For what repromand be bestowed upon a man, when no true crime be committed in reality.
The reliance of stern words and a request for compliance?
By this stage our accussed has come to acknowledge, no true force be made to have them succumb to these "orders".

So what have they learned besides a bitter taste?
An anger may now reside in their veins, with plots and plans, schemes of revenge.
One will never know the extent these fools now will take, to make the patients ones' lives a living hell.*

So I believe we have come full circle.
With patterns seen but no better view on this madness.
May it be that patience is learned by me, to prevent me in following their lead.

this is just a simple rhyming pattern poem that i scribbled down after waking up at 3 :40 am.
I usually write in an AB scheme but hey i just put the pen down on the paper sometimes.
oddly enough the scheme changes up ha ha i am all over the place.

not going to bother with spell check , just the stream as it was unfettered and more than likely a mess heh .

    The shelter .

The radio crackles , signal fading with a warning of a storm,
The car stutters but no matter for this car that was the norm,
in the darkness tress grow larger as if about to rise to life with will.
now the stutter turns to silence as the car stalls and then goes still.

    Look around sights unfamiliar,
no sky for her to see,
    The phone has no reception
so press on it has to be,

Walking along this country road she tries to overcome the gripping fear
of the rustling of the trees,of the movement that feels near
time seems frozen as she wanders soon with road becoming dirt
slowly drenched she starts to shiver as her heels begin to hurt.

Off with them she cries, at once surprised at herself but inside felt strength anew
the rain grows in strength as well as if nature is competing too.

In the distance illuminated by the flash of lightning ,
is that a house she sees ahead
    Hope renews inside ,
    hope for warmth, for food
    perhaps even a bed.

Trepidation fights for territory alongside the hope inside the mind
the need to escape the deluge overtakes, surely the owners will be kind
as if the sixth sense is coming forward the struggle is intense
she approaches and swallows the fear as she opens up the fence.

Into the fray she enters slowly , into this the hollowed door.
Trepidation fills her thoughts ,of what lies ahead she is unsure.

Inside the room without a name the respite hidden, tempting with warmth and light.
The foreboding shadows dance asunder as lighting breaks the night.

Forge ahead into the candle shutting out the storm,
a faint aroma of familiar presence permeates the dorm.
The front door closes ,twas the wind she thought looking at the rain
a muffled scream, that piercing shriek, the signature of pain
forget the fear and press ahead up stairs , was that, yes surely there is a light.
up she hastened , Up the stairs overcoming all her fright

The shriek again ,it shakes the house this time the agony seemed more intense
the shrieks are muffled further still by the swinging of that rusty fence
music begins ,the lyrics clear, the lyrics of repent
the brain kicks in with common sense but on to the room she went.

Approach the door, it is ajar the music pounds the hall
the shrieks get louder as if to imply that a life was soon to fall
No she screams with full intent with fear at forefront of the yell
to her surprise she is greeted with a hearty what the hell ?
a couple stare into her eyes both naked and confused
how did you get in the man began but as soon his hand became quite fused.
His breath grew shallow and then it stopped as the woman tried to run but did not heed the course
she tripped and fell unconscious as our visitor felt remorse.

No torture or murder nor victim to be found
but what then was that awful metal grinding sound
it was the woman's hip she was all of 94
the shrieking too were cries of joy of the loving on the floor

Confusion rang across her face , to flee or try to help her burden too heavy to mention
She gives the old man CPR , his old fella still at attention
a cough and splutter just like that car as his heart begins to beat
beneath our visitor the lady stirs brushing against her feet

The sight of old folks getting down was such an awful fright
Run down the stairs with haste and girl run with all your might

Back to the car there is a sight of people standing by
It is the police, a silent alarm went off with that old guy
She tries to compose and straighten up as they gather near
but instead of questions they offer help, the burden lifts of fear

Refueled she sets back upon her travels
    inside her mind slowly unravels
for the terror was not the tempest
    the cold ,the rain,the storm
    or even the irrational mind
tricking with it's fraud and guile to transform
no the fear had been much greater
the sight of that dude and that old broad on the floor
the fear was of the future and the thought of what's in store

But yet there comes some good of this , the loss of other fears
she can see more clearly , she hasn't felt this way in years
public speaking holds no more problems , a job interview a piece of cake
these things pale into nothing once you've seen and old lady grinding
with her hip about to break.

Just fucking around on my tablet , i'll stop spamming now heh.

It starts from one , a word or sight.
it pushes deeper , connects and grows,
the neurons fire, the speed of light,
the idea ventures, the seed it sows.

all around you highlights another spark
does it have its merits, the idea seem true
all of this free thought to illuminate the dark.
the spark ignites and it breaks through

the words flow freely , a torrent from the mind
that once small flicker litters the page
the cognition of those thoughts are signed
the mind is the conductor, the world it's stage.

Tragedy besots us all, at some stage throughout life. People bearing open wounds, others purple hearts.
Visible scars, unseen tears, buried deep within us all. Haunting visions, through damaged eyes, where others will see nil. Fists in families, break bones, verbal threats cause broken homes.
One speech gives comfort, leads us to care. Then militants preach violence and killing, through fear. Their only purpose to gain; wealth and greed. While the shamed turn their backs, shunning those in need. Plights seen advertised, break our tender hearts. Still ignorance is bliss, when a beggar shows a palm. We used to hide secrets from neighbors once part of our lives, now our communities are dead and we simply just hide. One hope holds strong, you all should know, to think for yourself and question them all.

By all the glories of the day
    And the cool evening's benison,
By that last sunset touch that lay
Upon the hills where day was done,
    By beauty lavisghly outpoured
    And blessings carelessly received,
By all the days that I have lived
    Make me a solider, Lord.
By all of man's hopes and fears,
And all the wonders poets sing,
    The laughter of unclouded years,
    And every sad and lovely thing;
    By the romantic ages stored
With high endeavor that was his,
    By all his mad catastrophes
Make me a man, O Lord.
I, that on my familiar hill
    Saw with uncomprehending eyes
A hundred of Thy sunsets spill
    Their fresh and sanguine sacrifice,
Ere the sun swings his noonday sword
Must say goodbye to all of this;--
By all delights that I shall miss,
Help me to die, O Lord.

It's paid a penny and only farted and its on the back of the ettamoggah pub's outhouse door, or more commonly known as the pub with the truck on the roof from footrot flats .

its 'footrot flats' and since thats a kiwi cartoon .. its not from there anyway. unless there was an episode where Wal put dog through quarantine and dropped in.

It used to be in the 'Post' magazine from memory under its own name.

Yes I'm on ipad auto corrected, maybe its not footrot flats the but there's a cartoon with identical art style that the pub features in not sure what its called. But they look the same and I always get the two confused. But nevertheless the poem is on the back of the outhouse door at the ettamoggah pub.

hah, damn autocorrect. turned mine off day 1.
It was just called 'The Ettamogah Pub' I think and that was it.
not seen it for years though, I can't remember the characters either, there was beer involved though.
Unlike footrot flats from memory it was always a single cartoon frame. footrot flats was also awesome and ettamogah .. a bit yawn usually.

heh, theres 4 real ones now.
