    Default Raspberry Pi

My Raspberry Pi got delivered today.

    http://www.raspberrypi.org/

Anyone else nerdy enough to know what one is? Anyone have plans for their own?

I am going to make a mame playing media center that can quietly sit under my telly.

    ----------

    Whatís a Raspberry Pi?

The Raspberry Pi is a credit-card sized computer that plugs into your TV and a keyboard. Itís a capable little PC which can be used for many of the things that your desktop PC does, like spreadsheets, word-processing and games. It also plays high-definition video. We want to see it being used by kids all over the world to learn programming.

Pretty cool, although a CFW PS3 can do the things you mentioned (very well in fact), as well as play DVDs, Blu-rays, and PS1, PS2, and PS3 games. You can get Linux on it too if you so desire.

    Yes of course.

But 35 dollar -v- several hundred dollar

It's a good option for a HTPC or mame cabinet or torrent server etc

    Cool little thing!

HD video? Looks like its only got a S-video output .. The yellow plug .. And maybe an analog 2 channel audio output?

It might handle HD video processing but doesn't look like it could output it into your TV.. Unless there is a HDMI or DVI output somewhere I can't see.

Well there were two places to order from. One took weeks, one fucked it up massive style and was delayed by something like 7 months.

    Guess which?

    Yep

Looks like the HDMI connection is directly opposite the yellow RCA.

    Confirm it has HDMI.

Plug in a USB wall wart (from your mobile phone maybe) and the HDMI into a TV and you're good to go.

You need an SD card with the right shiz on it (but you can buy them with it) and stick in a random keyboard you have sitting around.

I have booted mine up and everything looks good. Will take it for a run on the weekend and see what i can get it doing.

Amazing to think that such a small thing can contain so much power !! Size doesn't matter

Still waiting for a full OS multimedia PC watch that can project videos onto any surface and then i'll be happy.

How'd you go reaper? Did you follow through or is it on the back burner?

I just bought 1 to use and a HTPC/Media player.

    According to the webz.
It can play 1080p mkv (lossless) video files via hardware acceleration.
It cant to HD audio but it can pass it to your AVR
I struggles a bit with graphical xbmc skins
Its super small and super low power. I'm going to try and power it from the TV's USB and stick it to the back of the telly with some velcro
Its basically an opensource Apple TV.

    Well that was easy.

Great little unit for a media player. Not as good as a real HTPC (speed etc) but better than a WDTV or Apple TV.

Has anyone seen inside a external 3.5" HDD enclosure

Im assuming the is +5V and +12V DC to supply the SATA/MOLEX.

I'm thinking I can splice into the 5V to power the pi and fit it inside an enclosure

the 12v is supplied via 1A regulated plug pack, there is a small switch mode assembly in there to generate a 5v rail, likely capable of 500mA I would guess but don't quote me, thats just based on inductor size and my memory.

Anyone running a C compiler on board yet ? done any hardware interfacing ?

I guessed there would be a pi thread somewhere. looking at grabbing one as my mk808b keeps getting swapped from room to room and I figured if I can't think of anything supercool to do with it, a media player is acceptable.
I hope to interface it over SPI with some 320x240 touch panel lcd modules I am getting and I have a bunch of CC1100 433MHz modules to try and run some remote sensing within 100m of the house .. weather station, tank levels, pump status, water levels in the chookpen etc..

Poking around the v1.2 of the LCD I am getting is easy enough to whack on the pi, I am getting the current v1.3 version and the COG (chip on glass) is different I think as they changed chip at some stage from an ILS chip.

here is the data for the chip on mine, the SSD1289 from reading between the lines I can use the 8 bit interface on the high data lines, the interface type is set by resistors under the lcd, that is difficult to remove.

    http://aitendo3.sakura.ne.jp/aitendo....2-SSD1289.pdf

the wiki page for a simple componentless adapter http://www.elecfreaks.com/wiki/index...er_Sample_Data

heres the one i bought off ebay ..
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/231060788...84.m1497.l2649

    heres the pi ..
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/251411222...84.m1497.l2649

and I will ultimately need about 50 of these displays, so for future refence, the aliexpress wholesaler link

anyone been looking at the rpi camera module yet ?

is anyone reading this ? am i better off finding a more appropriate forum ..

well my pi got shipped today, hope it arrives monday. in celebration i downloaded the latest NOOB release files and repurposed my 8G SD card from my pentax camera, shoukd be all ready to boot on arrival.

also downloaded the schematics and printed them off, that is one hell of a powerful chip on there.

found myself a micro USB cable to power it .. my kindle cable, I never realised it was a micro USB and thought it was some proprietary doohickey, an iphone charger I have spare should be fine for the moment, also have a small switch mode supply capable of a few amps if I wanted to run it off something other than 5v.

just finished reading the latest edition of the 'MagPi' .. the magazine for the pi .. http://magpi.techjeeper.com/The-MagPi-issue-19-en.pdf

    lol, well thats something.
just reinstalled my 3D printer software and printing a case bottom.
    Attachment 1663

it didn't attach properly to the glass on the front left corner, but since its the bottom it will be fine.
3D printing and BF4 go together, quick look at the print on each death to make sure something catastrophic isn't happening.

Attachment 1664 .. the software in action, the light blue lines are moves and the red areas are still hot from printing.
