    Default PC Help

Well I was thinking about what Diddy said and I thought to create a Thread about Computers.

Well anyway, since this is all going to be about computers, like if you are going to build one or intending to upgrade it but make sure you link the products from the PC Case gear site, post it here and we will try and help you with your system and stuff like that. I've had many help with my one and I know what I am going to get. The only thing I noticed is that there are people in AUF who is building a Computer or getting one.

So post here your questions and we will try and answer them

Case is fine, power supply probably not with the graphics card you're getting but I'm not sure I'll leave that for Lt to confirm, motherboard looks good from a quick look.

    Also don't forget your OS.

The EVGA GeForce GTX 670 2GB requires 500W minimum. Your 750W should be fine but it never hurts to go larger with a PSU. Also the price is $529 from PC CASE GEAR

    Indeed.

New rule for the tread, to stop any confusion please provide links to PC CASE GEAR for the products.

I have never built one and mine worked without any hassle, all I did was follow the motherboard instruction book.

Its like a very expensive lego set.

Just make sure you "earth" yourself before touching components. (you can normally make sure of this by touching your PC case.)

Also when you "push" the CPU into the motherboard keep going regardless of the sound of it breaking... its a horrible first experience...

so how many Watt PSU should i be looking for? if my cards only need 600W and im using a 750W is there any distinct advantage of going for a 1000W supply?

I have a 1200W, two benefits, 1. Isn't running as hard = longer life. 2. Room for expansion.

as long as you go newish case with newish components most of the time everything is compatible. The only time you can get in trouble swapping cases is have certain cord lengths and buying a bigger case. This happened to be so i have a single wire running from the PSU up over the top of my GPU. Nothing hindering anything just a bit of a pain.

Have you got a old PC spare that you don't use?

Bit of a side question. If I built a gaming PC for say $1500-1800 in 2007 (PS3 release) would I be able to play BF3 on it at PS3 quality or better today?

I suppose I'm asking about the lifespan of gaming PCs

My god is that sand crunching sound terrifying I was sure I destroyed my CPU when doing that. I actually have a question, that sound is that the CPU meshing with the motherboard, does that ruin the motherboard for other CPUs?

No it doesn't unless you hear a loud crack.

But by the time you contemplate replacing the processor you might as well replace everything newer is better but more expensive.

Can't go wrong with the HAF X, it's a beast of a case.

I also believe there is a mid tower version of the HAF X and it is called the HAF XM, I guess it's so you have the same advantageous of the HAF X but in a smaller case version

I'm thinking of getting the Radeon Hd 7870 or maybe the HD 7950(the GTX's are very expensive there was a $100 difference and that I see these will perform much better), but depends on when I want it though. But anyway will this Powersupply sufficient and reliable, I'm only asking becuase of the rating here in NZ.

    Power Supply Help..

I watched a youtube video of a guy installing two different power supplies. one had about 30 cables that he didnt use and looked really untidy whilst the other was only about 10 cables all used and really clean and tidy.

any ideas of what the tidy one would be called?

This is what i have bought so far any thought or advice?

There are actually three different types of Power supplies, I remember some of the names, as the modular(I think), comes with the cables and you have to plug in all of them, really great one for cable management and tidyness. The semi-modular has the main cables, but you can plug in more cables if you want, then there was the non-modular where all the cables are plugged in and it's not that great for cable managemment but comes at a lower cost, I could have got the non-modular and the modular round the round way, but here are their descriptions

ive notice heaps of different wattages... is there a "Jack of all trades" type? would 750 or 1000 cover most things?

750 is fine for most rigs. Google psu calculator. And you can work out your exact requirements
