I can wait to watch this.

Woke up on my Birthday at 6 before the rest of my family and was scrolling FB and saw they had a live launch that day, sat there and watched it, 2 mins before the launch rest of the family woke up so we watched it live, was an awesome birthday.

this one will be awesome, wil either blow up just off the ground or 2 simultaneous landings of falcon rockets back on the pad plus a third on the barge.
Hope for the latter but a good unmanned earth shattering kaboom is always a good thing, unless you are spacex.
Then its all to send a godamn road car to Mars..

Personally i think a smooth launch would be awesome, Hollywood make enough big booms, I’d like our real world ones to actually work and function like they should.

Don't get me wrong, I am 100% rooting for success.
Saw a comment about Elon recently where he said that if the 4th launch of the falcon 1 had failed like the previous 3, it would have been the end of spacex, they were out of money.
I reckon they are in a better place financially now, would still have to hurt on a failure though.

Watched this a few days ago, can recommend, good video.

Lol, if it were NASA doing first launch of a new rocket it would be - let's just get this thing into orbit. With Musk - "hey why not send the thing to Mars with one of my cars in it? Make it so"

Wash out thy mouth, cheesy music !

Considering Elon said he will be happy if it doesnt blow the launchpad to pieces, cause that will put them back 9 months, it will be an interesting launch.
The dude driving is called Starman btw.

Music a bit old school for me but appropriate. For some reason that video had me in stitches. Just read your post again there's really a dummy astronaut on there??? Awesome.

Yup dummy in the new Spacex spacesuit.
I am hoping this thing is at least setup with cameras and maybe sensors, elon seems to like to perform one task while testing a few theorys out at the same time, though the spacesuit is not a spacewalk type of thing, perhaps its getting a long term vacuum test.
I bet the arms hanging out the window as shown too

So bummed I didn’t get to watch this launch, will watch a replay at smoko.

Set up the PC so missus could press a button and cast it to the TV for her and the boys to watch, they loved it.

Skip to 29 minute mark for actual launch.

Awesome pic from twitter as well.

Successful launch, well worth a watch, complete with Starman in outer space ready for his trip to Mars. About the only thing that went wrong is I believe they didn't recover one of the stages - the middle booster that was supposed to hit the drone ship.

I was going to stay up and watch it last night but after the delays gave up, no spoilers first thing, so just got the google home to play the launch .. watched with big grin, the vid it chose cut out just before the barge landing and went to an interview, at the point I am at, elon has no idea if the barge landing worked as well.

Love the humour, if aliens find the car in a billion years, did they worship this thing ? why is there a little car in the big car ?

Concentrating on the BFR now, 3-4 years to LEO, he was saying some things on rentry scale to the 8th power due to higher speed, he didn't think anything scaled to the 8th power .. so there is some homework to do.

I really liked this video, gives a nice appreciation of what it's like to be there, and it makes the booster landings seem even more surreal:

"...believed to be of religious significance."

Apparently the main rocket hit the water at 500km/h, about 100m from the drone ship, after a descent thruster failure. Drone ship was slightly damaged. It still blows my mind they they can even attempt to land something like that at sea, even having seen it done.

The core booster ran out of fuel elon reckons, also going with the Hitchikers guide theme, along with the Don't Panic there was in fact a towel in the glovebox.
