I hope they fix this issue some including myself are having with game mode and HDR crashing, I thought Graphics mode looked good however I disabled HDR on the Pro and then played on Game mode and wow, huge difference.

I even brought out the PS3 and fired up Red Dead Redemption, the scorching sun was one thing but the night of Blackwater was beautiful, the way the lanterns on the wall pierced through the screen was astounding, switched to Graphics and it just seemed so flat in comparison. It seems that Game mode has some sort of dynamic adjustment within the Local Dimming and X-tended Dynamic range that Graphics mode just cannot replicate.

Can only imagine what HDR games will look like within Game mode, giggity.

I got through the GTS race night in HDR mode with no TV crashes, although GTS itself did crash at one point before I joined the lobby.

I'm on the 49" screen, and I'm running the PS4 Pro on the Beta firmware.

I am on the 55", I think the issue is auto switching to HDR when opening or closing a game specifically in Game mode, I can open a game in HDR Graphics mode and now switch to Game mode and it works fine, just have to switch back before closing the game.

I don't think the issue is that wide spread, found a few sites mentioning it.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/bravia/comm...linking_light/
    https://www.resetera.com/threads/son...s.19080/page-2
    https://www.reddit.com/r/bravia/comm...do_not_update/
    https://community.sony.com/t5/4K-Ult.../664349/page/2

Looks like an issue with Firmware that doesn't affect all, on one hand it is annoying, on the other it is good to know that the crash is only the Android TV part and not an issue with the actual TV or screen for example.

GT Sport crashed for me also ha ha.

So everyone who picked up one of the Sony TV's recently, have you got your free 4k film?

I noticed an icon for a "free 4K film on us" on the screen, have to register a payment option for Google Play I think to collect it. Taxi Driver was one offered.

I have been playing around with calibration settings, I noticed that X-tended Dynamic Range is mostly intended to be used for HDR media yet the standard 'Cinema Home', and 'Game' settings both have this applied for non HDR media too.

I dabbled with it and the local dimming settings and it is actually a nice feature for non HDR content if it is on low.

I played an older film and when I put X-tended Dynamic Range on low there was a neat little effect, if there is any shiny surfaces such as metal, say a necklace or a gun for example, in a scene, it illuminates it brilliantly, adding a spark or glimmer to them.

Headlights on cars were so bright! The Katanas at play in Sanjuro glistened like the moistened neck of one Miss J Alba after a night of passion with yousr truly...

On low the effect is subtle enough to add immense brightness where need, yet not overpower the screen. Bloody brilliant TV.

Prices are OK. My TV is on sale there for $1700, but I got it for $1200 direct from Sony only four weeks ago (post #119 in this thread).

hence the shopping around for a low cost replacement, that one is a good few years old now, still works, the only thing it annoys me on is southpark, the fact the backlight intensity cannot be changed, lack of colour settings, only audio ouput is digital and its slow to come on

gizmodo looked at the 65" and it came out fairly well in the end.

I know that the Hisense N7 series was getting rave reviews and caused a bit of an uproar. Only the 55'' is under a grand now though I think.

    If you go to a store and look at all the TV's at a glance then the vast majority of brands look pretty good when feed HQ 4K signals, I think the things that make the higher brands stand out are the features;

    Upscaling
    HDR Colour range
    Motion handling
    User access to calibration settings
    Quality control for screen uniformity
    etc

I think as of now the majority of brands have pretty decent sets, the big brand premium is in the details imo.

    New firmware update for many 2017 Sony TV's, Dolby Vision for some, Z9D, X9500E, X9400E, X9300E, A1

I have the x900e though so not for me. It did fix the issue I had with the red flashing light when on game mode HDR though so that is cool. After the update the TV shut off and I had to manually power it back on after waiting awhile, bit of a scare.

.. and about time as well!!

Upgraded my Z9D 65 inch today!! Netflix DV looks awesome! Hard to tell if my better than normal HDR need to view in a completely dark room to get a good idea. But certainly looks very natural and well balanced light wise - the the normal specular highlights of HDR seem more even distributed .. which I think is part of what DV does .. allows a seperate layer of metadata for the HDR highlights and colour balance rather than just like a broadbrush treatment (if that makes sense).

Ha ha Snickers I have only recently witnessed normal HDR, I played Far Cry last night and I was sitting there with a stupid grin and drooling for about 15 minutes until my controller disconnected, like seeing boobies for the first time!.

You think Dolby Vision is another step up? I don't think my poor little mind could handle such awesomeness at this time.

Well I think I may have to disable casting on my TV, was having lunch on Sunday with the relos around and they were watching some sport, they had it on in the background and when I went to get a drink I noticed the sound of the sport stopped, I popped my head around the corner and what do I see on the TV? a naked lady spread eagle showing herself with glee.

A "friend" decided it would be a laugh to cast some porn....luckily I hit the off button before they finished eating and went back into watch TV.

I went to Renderer access control settings on the TV and disabled automatic access permission, don't know how effective it'll be. I think they have to be on the same wi-fi network as well? should change my password too.

That bastard got me, great idea too ha ha.

Ordered a new PC monitor the other day, primarily for the PS4 though as itís specs suit the Pro perfectly. Interested to see how the HDR goes, watched some pretty positive reviews on the monitor.

Once Iíve saved up some more cash Iíll be getting another monitor for PC duties, I still have a 28Ē 4K Monitor but Iíll be after a 27Ē 144hz, Gsync monitor, probably something like the Acer Predator

Yeah I've been looking at new ones since Xmas and have been saving my pocket money lol. I actually noticed some HDR panels but one was too big and the other wasn't 4K. I've been keeping my eye on monitors this year, there's 4K, 144hz, HDR, 27" ones coming out from Acer and Asus, same panel I believe but I'd dare say they'll be $1500+

I noticed that in Sydney there is a test transmission on channel 402, 4K FTA test. Just a circle test on the screen.

Wonder if Australia might get some 4K TV channels?

The test was previously a 1080p 50hz scene of nature, that would be a step up from 1080i 25hz, or 720p that the HD channels offer at least.

Long time since I watched free to air outside of sports though.

Update has made my x900e much faster, no more live football mode to quickly switch for sports though.
