I signed in this morning and kept gettin the 'connection to activision servers interrupted' message on MW2 could of been my net however.
Last night whilst playin the screen would go blank for a second then a message saying 'memory full' would pop up. Happened three times, was wierd.

I am having the same problem today...I go to sign in and two seconds later the machine is telling me I have been signed out of the playstation network...yet I have been able to download an update for MW2 to a new version...

signed out!!!...fuck you machine I aint even in yet.

Whats worse, for me anyway...I tried to put Assassins creed 2 in for a little play and it gets about three seconds into the loading screen after it says press start...and its telling me that the trophy information could not be registered or something and leaves the only option to quit the game...so now I cant even play the single player game I like to play...

I wonder is my machine broken...its not making me very happy..

Anyone with slims getting the problem?

Oh man...I just read through all that crap and comments...this sounds pretty bad...and seems to be mostly affecting the older units...ie 60 and 80 GB units...not old gamers..

They are saying that some peoples clocks have been reset like a Y2K bug kind of thing...that cant be good...and a lot of single player titles have gone down even though it stands to reason that you shouldnt need internet connection to play them...the problem seems to be in trophy syncing, which the games do as they load up...unless they cant in which case it throws you out to the XMB...unable to play...

Some bright sparks have suggested that you just disable the internet connection...that seems to work for some and not others...the way I read it ..if you got signed out and have been given the trophy errors and thrown out to the XMB...then disabling the internet doesnt work for you single player games and you still cant play them...

My own experience has been on an 80 gb unit...Assassins creed wouldnt load, the psn wouldnt connect and all my assassins creed trophies disappeared..(my only platinum).

Sony have twittered that they are aware of the problem and are looking into it...we just have to wait for them to do something I suppose...

Man...year of the tiger or what.

Yep. I've got the same problem. I got booted last night from the playstation network in the middle of an awesome killstreak on COD4MW. I can get into the playstation store and search on the internet. From that I assume there can't be issues with my wireless connection. It just won't let me sign into friggin PSN. The error code is 8001050F. I've googled that and there craploads of old and new forum posts asking for help. No answers yet though. If anyone comes up with a conclusive answer, please post. Cheers

The calendar on the PS3 fat didnt account for the leap year and has basically caused conflict with the PSN servers. Anyone with the new slim wont have an issue signing in and playing games but unfortunately everyone with the old PS3 fat will................. Apparently Sony are working to resolve the issue, somehow.......... You'll notice your PS3 dates will have reset themselves to 1/1/2000

I have seen in various places today the thought that the problem is in the bios...to do with the clock not matching or something...and that the problem may or may not fix itself given enough time...

I say we all pray....

If it is a bios problem..(no I dont really know what that means)...and the problem persists...it would be pretty painful to get a fix without being able to access the net through the machine...lots af jossing about with sticks and whatnot...making the fight file names and all that crap...am I right?

I hope that if it comes to that someone will give us a nice "idiots guide to fixing your PS3" post....cough...stiffy...cough.

EIGHT ZERO ZERO ONE ZERO FIVE ZERO F

Remember it boys. Remember it as the day Sony fucked us all.

I don't know exactly what the issues is but heres what seems to be going down.
> It only affects the older consoles, the slims are fine
> It'll reset your clock, your theme and corrupt any of your Dynamic themes
> You won't be able to sign in or play any PSN games
> Despite this your internet actually works fine
> Sony are cvnts.

It can't be a clock issue because I TRIED setting my clock via internet. Not to mention you can manually change the time of the clock to make it wrong. Perhaps PS3 servers didn't like February having 28 AND 29 days.

Fucking unbelievable

I've been reading up but can't really shed any more light on this. I've read some stories (http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-12218-Video-Game-Examiner~y2010m3d1-PSN-Up-and-working-properly) saying 'a patch will be out tomorrow' but their source is always an anonymous Sony call-centre employee :D

As others have already pointed out check out the sony twitter (http://twitter.com/sonyplaystation) for updates. There was also an official PS3 blog post (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/02/playstation-network-status-update/) about it but it too just directs people to check the twitter for updates.

If it's just the BIOS clock it might not be the end of the world; in the case of the Zune (which suffered a similar problem) it was just a matter of waiting an extra day and then everything returned to normal. Even if that isn't the case, Sony can probably patch their way around any issues with a firmware update, but that might require a little bit of effort. We'll see.

Until then it's back to DVD's and Blu-ray movies...

EDIT: Castle-vidcons already have a comic up about it:

But seriously, the problem is some dodgy internal clocks (leap year bug), and I think they might be associated with the 90nm RSX's. Basically, in the borked systems the system/internal clock is at 29/2/2010. That is not a real date! The OS knows that is not a real date, so it is freaking out and reverting to 1/1/2000. Once it hits 2/3/2010 IRL (GMT), the internal clock will hit 1/3/2010, which is a real date(albeit a day behind). Being a real date, the OS should recognize it, thus everything should work again. For us that will come at 11AM (AEDT) on 2/3/2010.

OK guys, I have an idea

We're going to run an AUF poll. If you have a PS3, can you post the following:

Borked? Yes/No
Your PS3 model number prefix: e.g. CECHA, CECHB, CECHC, etc.

I suspect that CECHL and onwards (65nm RSX) might be in the clear. Those were the PS3's released after August 2008.

Everyone will have 02 at the end, that means Australia/New Zealand, it's just the first 5 letters that distinguish the model you have. Anything up to CECHK has the 90nm RSX and seems to be affected. CECHL and later (CECHL - CECHQ) have the 65nm RSX and they don't seem to be affected. Slims (CECH-20) also have the 65nm RSX and are unaffected.

Nice pic. Fucking internal clock, someone clearly did not think this through. Dumb fucks.

Changing your clock won't work as I tried that, has to be internal. Fuck me this is bullshit.

AStiffBreeze
01-03-2010, 09:35 PM
Yeah the internal clock itself can't actually be changed, it just sits there ticking away and outputting the GMT time. It's separate to the clock you can set in the XMB.

But it's pretty funny that a basic mathematical error regarding leap years has taken down a massive proportion of PS3s worldwide. You have to laugh!

I just tried mine again and it was weird...

the pretty background came up and was sweet...then it gave me the option to log in on my main account...I did so...but then it slipped right back to the main account avi...I couldnt do anything except log out....the xmb wouldnt move at all...only one option...log out...

To maintain a positive frame of mind I have decided that all that crap must mean that they are busy working on a great solution and have disabled the network...which in turn has disabled my machine...

my advice to everyone is just switch the things off...at the back even and pray to God...Allah..Jehovah...Buddha...Zeus...Discord...A eris....whoever the frick you think might be able to help...and hope that tomorrow is a better day..

I would say it is time to panic...break open the heads of our neighbours and feast on the warm goo inside.

lol...my poor Mrs...she just told me that she hates it when my ps3 breaks down...the energy I give off is apparently quite horrible...

but then again she did say she hates it when it breaks down...that my friends is a step in the right direction..

It's definitely the clock causing the issue because PS3s globally started having issues at 12am GMT. And it's not solely a trophy issue since other things are also affected (e.g. dynamic themes). As to slims being affected I think your mates are pulling your leg filter, even the Sony Twitter confirms that slims aren't affected (and my theory is that any PS3 with a 65nm RSX should be fine).

Guys if you haven't turned on your PS3 since 10 AM yesterday (and it's model CECHK or earlier) then DON'T TURN IT ON FOR AT LEAST ANOTHER HALF HOUR. Otherwise data on your machine could possible get damaged. Even Sony don't know yet.

Mudman already posted the latest Sony blog post above, but I thought it might be a good idea to quote it here for the lazy:

Latest info on PlayStation Network Status
Posted by Patrick Seybold // Sr. Director, Corporate Communications & Social Media

As you may be aware, some customers have been unable to connect to the PlayStation Network today. This problem affects the models other than the new slim PS3.

We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system.

Errors include:

The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000.
When the user tries to sign in to the PlayStation Network, the following message appears on the screen; “An error has occurred. You have been signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)”.
When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; “Failed to install trophies. Please exit your game.”
When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the Internet, the following message appears on the screen; “The current date and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)”
Users are not able to play back certain rental video downloaded from the PlayStation Store before the expiration date.

We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.

As mentioned above, please be advised that the new slim PS3 is not affected with this error. We are doing our best to resolve the issue and do apologize for any inconvenience caused.

For the latest status on this situation please continue to check either the PlayStation.Blog or PlayStation.com.

They still don't seem to have figured out that CECHL and onwards fats (like kobes') are fine, but they'll get there eventually. At least now they've finally made the amazing discovery that it's clock related! :001_rolleyes:

I won't be surprised if this SONY fail makes the 6pm news tonight..... :(

Too late, most of us already turned it on... and I've even manually changed the clock :(

Hmm - if it's an internal clock thing... wouldn't it have changed anyway even if you didnt turn it on? if power is connected? i dunno... though gizmos like PCs do it????

R3PLIKATE
02-03-2010, 10:54 AM
Internal clock and a few other small components of comuters are ALWAYS ON. This is due to a battery in the motherboard with a last time of 10's of thousand of hours. I know my PC reckons it lasts 50 000 hours - thats nearly 6 years.

Along with the internal clock being on a few other things required for start up are also kept there.

You can't change your internal clock, it it never goes off regardless of power.

Guys, if you're concerned about losing trophies then these are the steps I've been advised:

1. Disable and re-enable internet connection, test it and set the clock.
2. Connect to PSN
3. If any trophies don't show up, start the game, exit and resync the trophies. For some games, you might have to play for a minute or so and then exit.

But as Spiltek confirmed, everyone is back in business. I love the action Sony took to fix the problem: they did nothing. They still don't seem to have figured out it was only associated with the 90nm RSX motherboards. Tossers.

Hmm - if it's an internal clock thing... wouldn't it have changed anyway even if you didnt turn it on? if power is connected? i dunno... though gizmos like PCs do it????
You have the internal clock, which as I said before you can't change the time on: it just sits there ticking away and reporting what it thinks is the current time in GMT until the battery for it runs out. The PS3 itself takes that time data, and applies changes to it (i.e. allows you to set a different time, set the time via internet, etc.) but regardless of what you do with it, it all starts with the time data reported by the internal clock. So you can set the time on your PS3 to be any time you like, but the internal clock just goes on reporting what it thinks is the current time in GMT.

Due to a bug in the internal clock on the 90nm RSX PS3 motherboards, the internal clock thought that 2010 was a leap year (i.e. February had 29 days). So at midnight (GMT) on February 28, the internal clock ticked over... to 29 February 2010. When it passed this date to the PS3, the PS3 shat the bed. The PS3 knew that there was no such day as 29 February 2010 and so refused to accept the date and time, and this in turn led to all of those other problems people were seeing (inability to connect to PSN, can't play games that track trophies, corrupted dynamic themes [since the dynamic themes read date and time] etc).

The problem resolved itself at midnight (GMT) on March 2, because the internal clock ticked over from 29 February 2010 to 1 March 2010. Even though that's the wrong date (it's a day behind), that doesn't matter since the PS3 recognises it as being a real date. The various internal clocks don't keep internal time perfectly anyway (they're not atomic clocks!) so the PS3 is built to work around issues with the time being slightly off. It just wasn't built to work around dates that don't exist.

So Chiips, they know what the problem was, and they did absolutely nothing to fix it. You'll find that PS3's which have never, ever, been connected to a network, and which couldn't play games like Heavy Rain during the 'down' period, were suddenly able to work again at 11AM AEDT today... all without ever being connected to a network. Trust me, Sony didn't do a goddam thing lol.
