reason I ask is, I sold my Rock Band 1 disc, but now my PS3 has died, I think I will have to re-buy it or rent it again to export all of my RB1 tracks onto my HDD.

the Rock Band Game Data file contains all of my DLC and exported tracks from RB1, if I do a backup onto an external HDD, can I then restore it onto a new PS3?

a yes or no will determine wether or not I have to rip out my HDD from my PC, put it into my external cradle, format it in FAT32, and go ahead with the backup.

you may not need to do that at all kobes as you can re download all of you DLC via the psn store and via you account info

I think the dutchinator is right but incase he aint
How big r the files??? it might be easy enough to use a cheap flash drive rather than rippin out the PC HDD. Hell I've got a 2GB one you could borrow (not that I think you wouldn't have your own) it may take a few transfers but it'll do it...

I know I can redownload all DLC purchased from my account, but when you export from RB1 it goes straight onto your HDD, not via a downloaded file. in other words, when I log into kobeson on my new PS3, there will be no tracks from RB1 available to download.

also, the game data file is almost 7gb I am pretty sure, way too big for my 2gb USB stick anyway.

don't wanna have to buy an 8gb stick (already gonna be out of pocket about $400 or so for a second PS3, so ripping out my HDD seems easier for me lol

mooki, such a kind offer thanks heaps, but not necessary.

I have asked this question on many forums, and guys on the Rock Band forums have told me it cannot be done, and that I will need to get the disc for RB1 again. apparently you can only backup/restore onto the same PS3 - you can put a new HDD in your PS3, but I think it uses the Mac address to recognise your console. and the Rock Band data files are locked for copyright - otherwise we could all just copy eachother's HDD I guess.

cheers for the kind offers fellas :) AUF rocks at times like these...
